About the Chris Corgan Memorial Foundation

The Christopher Corgan Memorial Foundation was established in January 1997 after the sudden passing of Christopher on October 5, 1996 at the young age of 23. Christopher had an undetected heart condition, an enlarged heart, specifically his left ventricle, which is known as left ventricular hypertrophy. He had an arrhythmia while exercising, a very fast, irregular heartbeat and died of cardiac arrest. As a way of keeping his memory alive, the Corgan family started this charity organization to support people in need. In Chris’ name scholarships are awarded to students looking to pursue a higher education while attending college, the American International College Physical Therapy program, and individuals that are in need of special medical attention. To date the Chris Corgan Memorial Foundation has been solely funded by proceeds generated from the Annual Chris Corgan Memorial Golf Tournament. We are proud to say this unique golf event, which has been ongoing for the past 13 years, has enabled us to award over $100,000 in scholarships and donations to people in need. Read more

As my close friends will tell you, I have many sayings, guidelines, and mottos that I try to live by. However one motto that is most important to me is, “Live life to its fullest.” Work extremely hard in your trade and in life but also play hard. Get your money’s worth out of life. Take the time to stop and smell the roses once in a while because you never know how long you’ll be here.  Each day we are very fortunate enough to be able to “make memories.” Unfortunately, I have come to this realization and been made aware of how precious life is due to the sudden passing of my brother, Chris Corgan.

“I have many fond memories of Christopher Corgan. I never had brothers so I always enjoyed hanging around the Corgan boys because if they liked you, they took you in as their own family.” (more…)

“A few months ago, Mike Corgan asked a close group of friends, our willingness to run the New York City Marathon in memory of his brother Chris. My answer was simply, yes. While I was not fortunate enough to know Chris Corgan, I have benefited from hearing the stories about Chris and his love for family, friends and his community.”

“I am most proud about my decision to run my first marathon because I am running to support a great cause known as the Chris Corgan Memorial Fund. Although I never had the opportunity to meet Chris personally, I am a good friend of his brother and feel so fortunate to be a part of celebrating his life and supporting the cause.”

“I could not be happier to be running with this team of great friends, nor prouder for running for the Chris Corgan Memorial Foundation.”

“I have been a firefighter for the City of New Haven for the last 14 years and I’ve seen first-hand how people’s lives can change in an instant. I truly look at this marathon as the challenge of my life, but perhaps even greater than that, through this marathon I see a way to be a part of something bigger. “
